CPSC Limits Holiday Shopping, Part II

CPSC Limits Holiday Shopping, Part II

Product Liability LawsuitI recently posted a blog of the same title that discussed recent recalls ordered by the CPSC just before holiday shopping hits full stride.

There were others to mention and, in an effort to keep you and your loved ones safe during this magical time of year, you should be aware of the following gift-giving limitations you may face.

For the Chefs in Your Life. For those who spend a lot of time in their St. Petersburg kitchen each year, there are many potential hazards due to the instruments used. However, accidentally cutting a finger while dicing an onion for the holiday meal is much different than facing an out-of-control fire or a life-threatening laceration, which could involve the need for a personal injury attorney.

For that reason, the CPSC has pulled the following products from the market. Be sure that if you happen across one of these products in Saint Petersburg or anywhere else, you leave it where it lies.

  • LG, a company known for reliable kitchen appliances faced a huge recall of 161,000 electric ranges after 80 formal accounts of burners failing to turn off were reported. The resulting fire hazard was too much to deny.
  • Nearly 13,000 Kirkland Signature sauté pans were recently recalled when it was discovered that the lids were susceptible to sudden cracking and shattering over heat. The shards sent flying posed a serious risk of laceration.

For the Babies in Your Life. It’s not just adults that face regular risks when using mass-marketed products. After a year of many notable recalls in the baby department, there is another story breaking this month that has many mothers very anxious.

  • The Eddie Bauer Company was forced to recall 97,000 rocking basinets due to the likelihood of the locking mechanism failing and creating a suffocation risk.

It is important to understand that just because a product has reached the shelves in the St. Petersburg area doesn’t mean that it is completely fool-proof, nor devoid of defects. Be careful in your purchases, read reviews, and keep a close eye on the recall list so you and your loved ones can enjoy the gifts that you receive this holiday season.

If you do find yourself involved in an unfortunate incident, contact a personal injury attorney to help you out.
