Most of our clients have never had a legal fight before. The unknown is scary, especially layered on top of an already stressful situation. We’re on the front lines of this fight instead of our client. We explain the process, we prepare our clients for each part of the case before it happens, we set expectations based on a lot of experience with similar cases, and we work these cases on contingency—so the client isn’t worried that there’s some legal bill in the mail. When a new client asks, “What happens if I lose?” our answer is always: you won’t pay us a single penny if we don’t win your case.

Rising Stars Pass The Bar!
2001-2005
Cliff Wells passes the Missouri Bar (01), then the Florida Bar (02). Jason Herman passes the Georgia Bar (04) and the Florida Bar (05).
Paths Cross
2005
Jason and Cliff are connected through the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar.
Collaboration Begins
2007
The two began meeting on a weekly basis and talking about legal issues. They weren’t working together directly, and in fact represented opposite sides of the areas of law they practiced in.
An Idea Blossoms
2007-2015
During the collaboration, the two began talking about opening their own firm, loosely at first, then committing to the idea.
Herman & Wells Officially Open Its Doors!
2015
Herman & Wells officially opened its doors in March of 2015. Operating from a smaller office in downtown St. Petersburg, they focused on property insurance disputes and personal injury claims.
First Personal Injury Trial Verdict
2015
Jason and Cliff tried their first case together in April 2015 (only a month after officially starting the firm) and they won a great result for their client.
First Insurance Dispute Trial Verdict
2016
Jason and Cliff tried an insurance case together in February 2016 (a little less than a year after the firm started) and won, getting the client is full policy limit for damage to his house.
Moved Into Current Office
2016
In a particularly eventful month, Jason and Cliff move the firm into the new HQ in Pinellas Park and get called last minute to try a challenging case in Ft. Lauderdale (they won too!).
Hired Our First Associate Attorney
2016
Warren Duffy joined the team in November 2016 bringing additional expertise to the firm’s property insurance dispute team.
Cliff Becomes Board Certified
2017
Cliff Wells is officially board-certified as a civil trial attorney.
Added Construction Defects To Our Areas Of Expertise
2022
Jason and Cliff welcome attorney Alan Gustafson to the Herman & Wells team, and officially add Construction Defects to the firm’s areas of expertise.
Added Disability Disputes To The Firm’s Practice Areas
2023
Attorney Bill Demas joins the firm at the beginning of 2023, officially adding ERISA and long-term disability disputes to the firm’s areas of expertise.
